dec 2k18 adventures with friends

Okay, technically this was Chuck's work party... but let's be honest, it's really just an excuse for everybody to hang out as friends. Craig and April inherited the um, pleasure? of hosting the shindig from Sean and Melissa and did a great job.
It was definitely a little bittersweet for our family knowing that it was our last holiday season with this crew before Chuck switched shifts.

Carma got comfortable fast - plate of sugar, cozy chair and footrest just her size haha.

Carma and Elias had no idea that they'd ever met before (I promised them they had!!) but they quickly buddied up and were adorable and played and played.

Marco Polo = the best thing ever for friendships; our girls group uses it... maybe not religiously haha but possibly fanatically?... to keep up in between girls nights. I love it when there's so much back and forth interaction that we're all on there at the same time or close to it - right at this second we were just missing Nyc and Melinda and they were both only a video or two behind.

I also included that screenshot because somehow this is the only picture I got of girls' night, whoops? I feel like we were FaceTiming Nicole the whole night though, maybe we took a screenshot of that haha. It was SUCH a fun night; we did a 'favorite things' gift exchange and things got hilarious and ridiculous so fast and in the end only minimal swapping was needed. The friendship of these six women is one of my greatest gifts ever.

Chuck and I headed out to Shari's one night with a group of friends and awesomely didn't take a picture with all of them, whooops!

The occasion was that Dan the Man was in town for a quick visit, but I made sure to get pictures of him the next morning when we put him to work - first giving Jack a haircut...

and then being Carma's personal stylist.

Once again she requested lots of bows and once again Dan came through haha.

Group shot with only minimal cropping required ;). We love any time we get to see Dan and this visit was no exception. Earlier in December I had posted a picture of Dan and Carma from a different visit with a caption that I want to quote here: "I also love him because he is funny and nice and loyal and has integrity and stands up for me and gives service like nobody’s business and because he loves my kids and my husband. I also love Dan because Heavenly Father instructed me to love my fellow man, without making them earn it or fit some predetermined mold to ‘deserve’ it. Dan the Man, thanks for being you. We love you."

We decided to send 2018 out with a bang... or a dart, at least, with a big nerf battle.

It's always extra fun to get Chuck out because he's so dramatic about taking the hit haha:

This was Brehner's first time participating in one of our crazy battles and holy moly, the kid was a natural. So fun!

A few of the group shots...

The peanut gallery! Aka the smart people (me and Janell) who stay off to the side and out of the way:

Although for the record, Janell has participated before and she's prettttty handy with a nerf blaster...

Always a good time, even when it's a wee bit chilly and snow was in the forecast haha!

december 2k18: adventures with grandma and grandpa Izatt

We hosted Chuck's parents for a week over Christmas break! Terri wasn't feeling well so we laid low a bit but also managed to fit in some outings as well.
Movie afternoon with Grandpa and cousins to 'Ralph Breaks the Internet'.

The whole gang took on the Discovery Center one day:

Carma was pretty psyched to build a tower taller than she is haha.

Picture with Grandpa at the Caldwell lights on Christmas Eve. Take 1 with Jack wearing his ski mask:

Take 2 when we made him pull it down so we could see his face haha.

Grandpa treated everyone to Golden Corral which has become a tradition that our kids are a-okay with haha. Clyde and Will dabbled in steak-eating and Carma suuuure enjoyed that ice cream cone!

An at-home activity that the kids obviously loved was making slime with Grandma :).

Lee and Aleesha awesomely and very generously hosted Christmas Day dinner at their house. It's fun knowing that these Izatt cousins are together for so many holidays and the rest of the cousins in Utah are usually together for the holidays too!

Aaaand an outtake, of course ;).

dec 2k18 adventures with Grandma Pam

Ways that my mom and Oprah are alike: they both have dogs like this and pose with them haha. Also they are generous and funny and kind and look out for others and like to talk :).

Grandma Pam was Jack's favorite person ever in the month of December (and let's face it, probably a few other months as well) because she took him to watch BYU FOOTBALL! The Cougars came to Boise to play in the Potato Bowl, and Chuck was asleep and I was at work so Grandma Pam stepped up to the (very very cold) plate.

Hello cutest picture ever of Jack and Cosmo Cougar!!

Obligatory picture in front of the large potato haha:

Turns out it was hecka cold. And windy. And cold. Grandma did an excellent job of keeping the boys covered and warm and they seat hopped throughout the game to get to warmer and warmer spots haha.

Quick break from the wind! Clyde and Jack both loved watching the game.

That evening we attempted a picture of all four wee BYU fans with Grandma Pam, an esteemed alumni if there ever was one. Turns out my kids are ridiculous when it's time to smile nicely for pictures. WHO KNEW.

Couple more attempts....

We called this one a winner and moved one with our lives. Thanks so much mama for making Jack's cute little dream come true!!

We took a Christmas Even jaunt to see the lights in Caldwell:

Will looks like he just found out that it's Christmas Eve and hasn't started his shopping ... for anyone... at all... haha.

Me and my mommy!

Over Christmas break we all descended upon my mama's house. My brothers and I conspired and did the 'something you want, something you need, something to wear, and something to read' take on gifts for our parents this year which was really fun.

And of course Mom had plenty of help with that tricky wrapping paper and tape courtesy of grandkids :).

Quinn was facetiming Sam in. I have no idea what was said prior to this picture, but it must have been funny per Clyde's response haha.

This was the 'something to read' (along with a subscription to Deseret BookShelf + audio book service). My mom is absolutely the mother that Cody and Sam and Quinn and I have needed and continue to need. Pretty sure no one else could have handled us with the love and wisdom that she did!

Cousin fun at Grandma's house:

Leila, Carma, Pamela... aka my mama and the namesakes of her mama and grandma. Love it.

It's hiiiiighly possible that Quinn and I are weird.

It's hiiiiighly possible that Eden married Quinn and Chuck married me not knowing the full extent of our respective weirdness. Too late now, suckers!

To Grandmother's House we went, and from Grandmother's House we had to depart. Thanks for hosting us Mom!
