march: hikin' about

Guys. It's probably pretty telling that you're not the most outdoorsy/adventurous family if you legit go on ONE spring hike and you take enough pictures to warrant an entire blog post about it haha.

Not entirely sure why the only person in this picture without a hat or sunglasses is the one person in our family who struggles the most keeping their eyes open in any level of sunlight, but that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes ;).

So, one beautiful spring-like Saturday in March we piled in the van and headed over to hike Tablerock. I'm not going to lie; despite growing up in Boise this miiiight have been my first time on this hike. I know I've driven up there before... so that counts for something, right? ANYhow, it's a fairly chill, family-friendly hike so off we went. Let the record show that Chuck had to carry Carma June pretty close to right off the bat NOT because she wimped out on us, but rather because she threw a pretty hardcore fit when the boys wouldn't let her be the leader of our merry little expedition haha.

We remedied that situation pretty quick (we don't negotiate with Carma, we just give in) and continued on our way. The kids did wayyyy better than I anticipated, so that was excellent!

Not to say we didn't find spots along the way to rest ;).

Thanks to the nice person who saw us struggling for a selfie at this picturesque spot partway up and helped us out!

We made it to the top, hurrah! And I promptly had a heart attack when my kids got anywhere near the ledge so we snapped these pictures and then traipsed over to a safer-ish looking area for our picnic haha.

Those gogurts, string cheeses, and granola bars tasted juuust as delicious as we dreamed they would during the hike up.

Sibling pics on the way back down.

Random story: on the hike down Will pointed out that he kept seeing people come down with dogs but not go up with dogs... so I responded, "Oh yeah, that's because they're getting the dogs at the top. Didn't you see? The humane society had a little booth up there where you could adopt a dog right then, and then you hike down with it!" Poor kid believed me the rest of the day haha.

Overall: super fun day, perfect way to meet our family's 'one hike a year' quota!
