august: back to school

One of the perks of Clyde starting middle school was that I finally had a middle schooler to embarrass! Pretty sure I was very on my game as I accompanied him to the Open House o'er there. Biggest regret: not taking pictures of him with his teachers. Would it have embarrassed him beyond belief? Yes. Would he have followed through on various threats to never speak to me again? Possibly. Would it have been SO WORTH IT to have those pictures? Duh.
But we'll settle for the classic 'opening his locker' picture as well as a couple selfie attempts with his favorite mom who can still make him laugh super hard even though he's a big bad sixth grader.

Here he is on the first day of school! Ahhhh so cute:
Aaaand riding off to school! He got a couple weeks of this in before it got too dark for him to cross Southside in the midst of the morning commute. We started dropping off his bike at the school and having him just ride home, which worked pretty great.

Willy boy was pretty dang happy to start fourth grade:
Oh man, this kid makes me laugh so much.

Will biked every day until winter hit and loved it. Off he goes!

We hit up open houses for all three younger kids in the same night, and then had an additional Open House kindergarten day for Jack the next morning. Both elementary boys were happy with their classroom placements: Miss Hill for Will and Mrs. Koeppen for Jack!

Ohhhh be still my heart! I've been waiting for this day since Jack hit the terrible two's a few months early haha, and it was as wonderful as I imagined - Jack loves school and school loves him and I felt no worry or angst about sending him!!

The first official day where Jack got to ride his bike with Will to school... you'll notice they were shadowed on the way there by a cute dad. We also showed up at the school that afternoon to escort them home, which they were fairly offended by and explained clearly that they were FINE and could ride home together WITHOUT parents.
Okay, maybe my heart of steel melted a little when Jackers brought this cute paper home the first week of school and I possibly realized that I was sending my baby away for seven-ish hours every other day of the week... and then I got over it and merrily went on my way ;).

Preschool started a week later, so in the meantime Carma and I got a bit of girl time which she clearly spent convincing me to do her makeup for a Target run:

Let the record show this day she did her makeup herself.... but I will take credit for the Rapunzel hair!!

And then happily the first day of preschool arrived. Carma boarded the short bus and never looked back! We were thrilled to find that one of Will's bus drivers still has our route; we love Tammy!
We love back to school time - although some of us adjusted more quickly to it than others. Sleep, sugar - whatever you need to cope! (for the record, I opted for both haha).
