My Mother's Day weekend started out fabulously when a delivery man brought this beautiful bouquet of flowers to my door on Thursday, courtesy of my thoughtful parents-in-law: I love flowers AND mail, so this was a greatly appreciated double whammy!
That evening, my sweet mom helped the boys weed and plant some new flowers in the front yard.
Will mostly supervised, but Clyde happily dug holes, poured water, and dropped in the flowers.
Then on Saturday morning my mom took me out for a lovely mother-daughter date; we got manicures and went to the temple together and she also treated me to lunch in the cafeteria afterwards!
Clyde decided to do something a little different for me for Mother's Day. Given his lack of fear combined with his love for running and jumping, I always knew Clyde would break a bone early in life but wasn't sure if he'd start with an arm or a leg. As a gift, he allowed me to cease that contemplation tonight:
Presenting Clyde's right leg growth plate fracture in all its splint-ed glory.
Unfortunately, it's not a terribly exciting story; he went down a slide faster than anticipated and slammed his feet pretty hard into the ground - and I was even there to catch him! He cried quite a bit, and after a few minutes of limping around he refused to walk on it at all. It didn't look swollen, but we still decided to get it looked at. By then all of the immediate care clinics were closed, so we headed to the ER. (Much thanks to my mom for meeting us there and taking Will home with her for the evening).
Hanging out waiting to see the doctor; we love warm blankets and Toy Story playing on the TV!

We do not love x-rays, as luck would have it. He did all right until the second one when they had to turn his leg sideways :(
We do love playing catch with his new teddy bear! Can you tell that the Motrin has kicked in?
The awesome ER doctor came back with a diagnosis (Salter fracture, right tib-fib), a treatment plan (splint and follow-up care with a specialist), and a purple popsicle. Love her!
We then loaded Clyde into the car, picked up Will, and tucked them both into bed. Although I think it's kind of funny that Will can walk and Clyde can't, I'm not looking forward to Clyde realizing that when he wakes up today . . .
Happy Mother's Day to all!

Poor Clyde!!! Glad he's okay though!
Happy Mother's Day!
Not being able to walk is really going to cramp his style.
Happy Mother's Day!
Ouch, poor leg. I remember the time Clyde jumped on a big wheel and rode down the stairs on our deck. So, the broken leg was just a matter of time.
Poor Clyde monster! Good thing you listened to your mommy-intuition last night!
I want an honest answer. When you decided to go to the ER did you, or did you not, go home first to get your camera so that you could take pictures for your blog? :)
Poor Clyde. I can only imagine what it's going to be like to care for him when he does realize he cannot walk. Good luck! Happy Mother's Day to you- you are an awesome mother!! Your children and Chuck are LUCKY to have you!
